It is hard not to feel at one with nature when crossing the chain bridge over the River Usk before turning up the lane towards Nantyderry. The annual Abergavenny Food Festival celebrates the talents of local butchers, bakers, fishmongers and other fresh food suppliers that have long championed the standards of produce that foodies yearn for. And, it’s this love of fresh local food that husband-and-wife team Matt and Lisa Tebbutt have brought to the Foxhunter.
It’s fair to say that the Foxhunter is closer to a restaurant than a traditional pub. Matt offers the very best of modern British cooking, characterised by daily changing menus featuring local, organic ingredients and recipes which remain true to the flavours of fresh, seasonal ingredients.
And as far as judge Anthony Worrall Thompson is concerned it is a wonderful place. He said, “It is so obvious that the owners really care for the locals, for the environment and for their superb offering. They provide a friendly, genuine welcome with unpretentious food and a great selection of reasonably priced wine. You don’t really need any more.”
