Meet the Judges

Antony Worrall Thompson

Judge, Perfect Food Pub

As one of the UK's most talented and accomplished chefs, there's not much that Antony doesn't know about food and drink. With countless awards, TV shows, books and successful restaurants to his name, his catering credentials are second to none.

Antony has chaired the Restaurateur's Association, is passionate about organic farming and takes a strong stand on nutritional issues. Furthermore, his creativity and flair for interior design have helped the success of his many ventures. Put simply, he is ideally qualified to judge the attributes that make the perfect food pub!

Philippa Forrester

Judge, Perfect Family Pub

Whether It's co-coordinating schedules for her Production Company, writing articles for various magazines & newspapers, or presenting her various TV /radio programmes or even planning the perfect pub meal for her family and three young children, Philippa brings a fresh touch to everything she does. As one of our most bubbly, charismatic and intelligent celebrities, her repertoire includes Tomorrow's World, Robot Wars, Barking Mad, and The World's Strongest Man , not to mention all the documentaries she & her husband wildlife Cameraman Charlie Hamilton-James have made together for BBC2 Natural World & Discovery Animal Planet.

On her popular BBC Bristol radio show, Philippa makes no secret of her love of good food. As a champion for healthy local produce, food-tasting sessions are a regular feature on the programme. And, to wash it all down, her radio pub quiz is a firm favourite with listeners.

Brian Blessed

Judge, Perfect Pub Host

Often described as larger than life, Brian Blessed is a big man with a big presence who exudes the type of memorable personality that might characterise the perfect pub host.

With a distinguished stage, film and TV career, Brian is one of our most highly respected actors. His big-screen roles include King Lear, Flash Gordon, Star Wars and Robin Prince of Thieves. I Claudius, Blackadder and Z-Cars rank among his TV credits. Away from acting, Brian is no stranger to a challenge - he is a keen mountaineer and holds the record as the oldest man to reach the North Pole.

Tim Hampson

Judge, Perfect Cask Pub

Tim Hampson has one of the world's best jobs - he is paid to go to pubs and drink beer. He is Chairman of the British Guild of Beer Writers, beer correspondent for Great Food Live and a contributor to the Sky Pub Channel. His publications include the Telegraph, the Guardian, the Independent and What's Brewing newspapers. He is passionate about beer and still marvels at how many tastes, colours and aromas can come from such simple ingredients - barley, hops, water and yeast. Cask beer has much more complexity and variety than wine he says. And beneath his beer drinker's body can be a fine honed athlete - as he is a qualified athletics coach.
